New Driver Training
Before starting, it's a legal requirement for you to be over 17 years of age and hold a UK Provisional driving License. It is possible to start at 16 Years of age provided you are in receipt of Disable Living Allowance (DLA) at the higher rate.
Training is carried out in a modern, air conditioned dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsa design by a fully qualified Grade 6 Approved Driving Instructor (many large schools use trainee instructors). Green badge on the windscreen indicates fully qualified, Pink badge indicates Trainee.
Driving instruction is structured to suit each individual and follow the DSA's syllabus, designed not to just pass the test, but to be a safe driver for life, this includes accident avoidance techniques.
Training sessions are in multiples of 60 minutes and you will be advised of your progress as you go along.
All registered instructors have to undergo rigorous training and examinations. They are also Criminal Records Bureau checked at the enhanced level to ensure the safety of you, the pupil. Fully qualified ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors) have regular checks by the Driving Standards Agency to ensure their level of instruction is up to the required standard. Unregistered, illegal instructors do not have any of this!
More importantly, if your instructor is not licensed you are not insured to drive their car! Registered instructors provide their licence details to the specialist insurance companies before they can obtain tuition vehicle insurance cover.
Vehicles used for taking a driving test need special insurance cover. This applies to all vehicles, even family or friends or your own car.
